About & Contact

Hi I'm Emily Writes. I'm a mum of two. I'm a volunteer, activist, author, writer and public speaker. I’ve written three books – Rants in the Dark, Is it Bedtime Yet?, and Needs Adult Supervision.
I make my living writing a newsletter unoriginally titled Emily Writes Weekly!

Contact me
You can contact me at emily@emilywrites.co.nz. If you're just going to be mean - then don't.
I'm sorry if I don't answer your email I have like 80 million emails a day. It's not that I don't care - it might just take me a while to get back to you if it's not urgent.
If you're asking me to do something for free, please consider I'm a mum of two young kids juggling a bunch of jobs – it's unlikely I can look over your business proposal/research proposal/charity idea. Again, it's not that I don't care, it's that there's just so many hours in a day.

Buy my books
You can buy them at all good bookstores. For example, Time Out in Mt Eden, Ekor Bookshop & Cafe or Unity Books or Scorpio Books in Christchurch. If you can’t get to a bookstore, order it online here.
Or you can get it as an E-book through Apple, Amazon Kindle and Kobo.
Read more about my books here.

I also speak at events! I do everything really - fundraisers, AGMs, conferences, quizzes, MCing jobs... I would love to speak at your thing! I would love to read my book at your thing. Email me at emily@emilywrites.co.nz.
I like talking about stuff like parenting, ante-natal depression, feminism and the rights of children and mothers. I can talk about social media stuff and bleurgh "content creation" and bleeeeeuuurrrrghhh "being authentic". More importantly, I can talk about creating online communities that bring people together instead of being divisive shitholes that are filled with festering garbage. I am deeply concerned about accessibility for parents and children. I am concerned about the pressures put on vulnerable mothers and the difficulty in parenting free from judgement. I can talk about that stuff. Or just funny parenting, weird stuff. Or spa baths. Or wine. You can invite me to talk about stuff like that on your radio show if you want.
I can't speak for free I'm sorry - I have a family to support. Thank you for understanding.

Here's some things people have said about me after I came to their thing and spoke at their thing.
Emily's passion is in building and strengthening communities and sharing how crucial it is to create and connect with others to overcome pain and adversity. With kindness and care Emily shares the ways we can show manaaki to ourselves and each other so we can face an uncertain future with hope. - Celebrity Speakers
Emily is a talented story teller and writer. Our audience was both in tears and laughter. She is warm, funny and authentic which resonated with our audience. - Service IQ
"Emily spoke about reaching vulnerable communities in a way that was really accessible. I feel like I can do my job better now - communicating science and health in a way that will actually matter and change things"

Advertising opportunities
Sometimes I run ads. I rarely do. They must align with my values. Due to being so selective with advertising, the advertising I do has a significant impact. Please email me at emily@emilywrites.co.nz to discuss advertising your organisation or business, or to share a message.
“If you’re looking for authentic engagement and real alignment with a kaupapa, I can’t recommend advertising with Emily enough. Her community doesn’t just glance at content, they interact with it, share it and offer meaningful feedback. That creates a sense of conversation and connection that goes far deeper than clicks or impressions. From an NGO point of view, values alignment proves much more powerful in delivering community messages than sheer numbers alone, and that’s exactly what advertising with Emily offers. Her audience trusts her voice, which means your message is received with openness and credibility.” - Marie Silberstein, Te Takere | Operations Team, Digital Equity Coalition Aotearoa (DECA)

For over a decade, author and advocate Emily Writes has generously used her platform and heartfelt, relatable writing to give voice to New Zealand’s most vulnerable people.
