FNC - The creature and his mum
Welcome to Friday Night Chats! I'm so glad you're here, and I'm so happy it's the weekend. I hope you enjoy tonight's FNC. I would love to chat - let's go!
I just got back from Eddie being presented his award from Diabetes NZ. It was so special. I'm so proud of him. Both boys insisted on wearing suits, and they looked so smart.
Next on my list of things to do is organise videos of them for Moriori Language Week next week. If you want to learn a bit of ta rē Moriori I encourage you to visit their website here. You can also check out the official website of Hokotehi Moriori Trust website.
Next week, you can sign off your emails with Me Rongo if you like. It means 'be in peace'.

This week, Ronnie was invited to Wellington Access Radio to record a news show. Ronnie News Network is his news show that he loves to share with me every morning. He's been desperate to record it. Everyone was so so nice. It was so lovely of them to invite him to come in. They were super patient and excited to hear from him. He absolutely loved it.
We are currently editing his recording - a lot of it might breach the BSA haha. He also visited his new school. He had a great visit and a not-so-great one. So I'm trying to stay optimistic!
So it's been a busy week as usual. I read this post about a woman who paid another woman $169 per month to organise her life. And I'm both horrified and jealous?
I'm fascinated by the idea of someone reading all your emails and deciding what's important and actionable. It sounds so....great but somehow not?
We did not win the big Lotto, sadly (nobody did). But if I did win Lotto, I would definitely get someone to organise my life. And I would get someone to take all my washing and return it dry, folded, and sorted. I would also get someone to change my sheets, like I live in a hotel.
Also, I laughed at a headline that asked if $45 million could buy happiness. Like of course it could come on now.
What would you do? And what's your most hated chore?

What I’m watching:
I'm watching on TVNZ All Her Fault it's really good. Sarah Snook is such a good actress. It's great to see her something after Succession ended. It's really similar to another TV show that I can barely remember which shows it wasn't the best show I guess. But All Her Fault is really captivating. But just content warning for a storyline around a disabled child and their lack of education options lolol maybe that's just a content warning for me!
I saw Frankenstein on Netflix and I loved it. I thought it was beautiful and is probably the most human/humane depiction of Frankenstein's creature. I love the book and I felt like the changes to it for the film worked really well.
Jacob Elordi who is usually just tall in movies was amazing. I have always thought Frankenstein was an allegory for motherhood (“I hadn’t considered what comes after creation”) and I think finally the Elizabeth/Creature relationship is portrayed as it should be - a mother and son. It is hard not to be horny around Elordi or horny at the idea of a creature - but Frankenstein is not meant to be a horny book I'm sorry.
If you haven't read Frankenstein I think you should. It's beautiful - I mean, this perfect line: “Life, although it may only be an accumulation of anguish, is dear to me, and I will defend it.

What I’m listening to
My friend made a Laneways playlist so we can be cool and know all of the bands going, given we only know Chappell Roan and Wet Leg. By the end of this year, I aim to know all of the bands! I will be cool and young!
I have been listening to a podcast called My Friend Daisy, which is very sad, and so I only listen to one episode at a time. After Daisy De La O's murder in Compton, her loved ones turned to TikTok. This podcast is all about the fallout from that.
I went to Coven last weekend and they had such a great sapphic playlist. I have realised that Heavy Cross by The Gossip is my favourite song to dance to. It's such a good one for just throwing your arms around. I have also been enjoying Gay 4 Me by G-Flip and Smoking Section by Lauren Sanderson. And then I found this acoustic version of Gay 4 Me. Gay! For! Me!
What are you listening to? Reading? Watching?
What are your plans for the weekend?
We have some new Troll Tees up ready for you to buy for Christmas! XMAS ORDERS CLOSE 10 DECEMBER! We have 'Toxic Leftie Green' (by popular demand - a love letter from Better Wellington - they were thoroughly humiliated in the local election, but their insult that was actually a compliment lives on). All profits go to my Beer Fund. And a T-shirt based on my most favourite tweet by national treasure Hera Lindsay Bird.
“godDAMN this stupid milkloving piece of shit dumbass mean spirited sale at briscoes racist sexist 40% off deck furniture piss country”.
Thanks to Hera, all profits from this tee will go to the Aotearoa 4 Gaza mutual aid fund.
I have a big gift guide coming up with gifts that support the community and local artists so flick me an email if you know anyone or anything I should include! Oh and great news - I added schools to a list at: Don't let the government use your school as a propaganda outpost. It's inspiring!
Last chance to get tickets to the party tomorrow
I am so happy you're here and so grateful for your support. Truly, I can't thank you enough. Arohanui, Emily x
