Hello, again

I'm Emily. I write Emily Writes Weekly here, on my new website, which replaces my Substack and old website, all at once.

Hello, again

I'm Emily.

I write Emily Writes Weekly here on my site. It has all my old posts too!

You can subscribe below:

What is Emily Writes Weekly anyway?

Emily Writes Weekly is a newsletter by me, Emily Writes, hitting your inbox a few times a week! This is my income so I am so super grateful for your support.

Here we talk about heaps of things and we also have the awesome - Friday Night Chats! A home away from grotesque Facebook.

I’ll be covering anything and everything: parenting, politics, conspiracy theories, what's new in the world of capybaras, anxious thoughts, orcas, health (mental and physical), sex and sexuality, bees, love, what happened on the boat in that Dixie Chicks song, sleep, available prescription drugs and terrifying socialist pinko leftie misandrist snowflake views on wild topics like The Bachelorette and vaccination.

We have a regular newsletter within a newsletter letting you know what is going on across the motu (and world) and how you can help. It's called The Call sometimes, when I remember to call it that.

I want to hear from you – tell me what you want to talk about and read about. Tell me what lights you up and we can, umm, light everyone else up? OK bad analogy, point is I want us to talk and share and I want this to be a community. Because we need community right now, we really do. So subscribe, get in touch, and let's get this going.

By supporting this newsletter you're saying writing matters and I really appreciate that. Times are tough out there for writers and it means the world that you'd share your hard-earned coin with me. I am grateful beyond words, terrified, excited and hopeful. I reckon here we can create something really wonderful. So thanks for doing this with me.

Didn't you write some books?

Did I ever! I wrote two books and a collection of essays that included amazing writing from parents around Aotearoa. You can buy my books: Rants in the Dark, Is it Bedtime Yet?, and Needs Adult Supervision over here.

If you can’t get to a bookstore – order it online with free international shipping here. Yes, that’s really free ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD you don’t have to be in New Zealand to buy the books! Or you can buy it hereherehere, or here. Or you can get it as an E-book through AppleAmazon Kindle or Kobo.

Will you come to my thing and talk about this thing

Mate, if you pay me I will come to your house and sing Fleetwood Mac's 1977 revenge classic Silver Springs furiously at your husband as long as you pay me. If you want to book me to speak literally anywhere that would be real nice and you can email me at Emily @ emilywrites dot co dot nz to pitch your gig - there's not much I won't do for money lol

I've spoken at events and conferences and AGMs and all sorts of things. I would love to speak at your thing. I would love to read my book at your thing.

I like talking about stuff like parenting, ante-natal depression, feminism and the rights of children and mothers. I can talk about social media stuff and bleurgh "content creation" and bleeeeeuuurrrrghhh "being authentic". More importantly I can talk about creating online communities that bring people together instead of being divisive shitholes that are filled with festering garbage. I care a lot about accessibility for parents and children. I am concerned about the pressures put on vulnerable mothers and the difficulty in parenting free from judgement. I can talk about that stuff. Or just funny parenting weird stuff. Or spa baths. Or wine. You can invite me to talk about stuff like that on your radio show if you want.

If you want to support me you could put my name forward for events

I'm just a nice person, I want to give you money and I don't even want to see your feet

Bless your heart. If you want to buy me a coffee you can do that here. Thank you for your support. You light up my life.

What do you even write about?

Socialism by stealth through funny posts about parenting? Angry rants at the government? Interviews with creeps? Calls to action to be our best selves despite living in a capitalist nightmare. You know, the usual.

Why didn't you answer my email five seconds after I sent it?

I'm sorry if I don't answer your email I have like 80 million emails a day. It's not that I don't care - it might just take me a while to get back to you if it's not urgent.

Also - please consider I'm a mum of two young kids juggling a bunch of jobs - It's unlikely I can look over your business proposal/research proposal/charity idea. Again, it's not that I don't care - it's that there's just so many hours in a day.

You didn't answer my question!!
